Research and Innovation are at the heart of our center and how we work.
The Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center launched the Basic Science and Engineering (BASE) Research Initiative, under the direction of Marlene Rabinovitch, MD, and the leadership of the Children’s Heart Center under Frank Hanley, MD. We believe the field of congenital cardiac care is currently at a critical juncture along its evolutionary path: Looking forward, the next major advances in survival, quality of life, and cure will not be achieved using our well-established techniques. Rather, new approaches, derived from discoveries in basic science and engineering will fuel the next wave of advances in the management of children’s heart disease. BASE is positioned to contribute to play a leading role in this new era.

The Clinical and Translational Research Program (CTRP), which launched in fall 2014, is led by Doff McElhinney, MD, and promises to promote a collaborative framework to support clinical research discoveries by the faculty, clinicians, and other members of the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center.
The CTRP is designed to meet the evolving needs of the patient community and to act as the platform for the Betty Irene Moore Children's Heart Center to assume a leading national and international role in advancing the field through the evaluation of clinical data and outcomes.
As faculty members at the Stanford University School of Medicine, our doctors work to translate their research on pediatric heart disease into innovative patient treatments or preventive techniques. These physician-scientists benefit from the scientific and biotechnology expertise locally available across Stanford University and throughout Silicon Valley. So does your child.
